Big Easy Web Hosting is no longer offering a FREE DOMAIN FOR LIFE. Domains are so cheap now, you can get one from GoDaddy for about $7.00 a year.

We are focusing strictly on our web hosting services - our $9.99 per YEAR cPanel hosting is the best deal in the business, period.

That's 1 year of hosting for $9.99!!

Of course we will honor our agreements with our existing customers and continue providing them with a free domain for as long as they continue hosting with us

Mail Questions :: Thunderbird: Security Error: Domain Name Mismatch

When setting up an email address, you may receive certification error messages in Thunderbird when using an authenticated SMTP server similar to this one:

Quote:

You have attempted to establish a connection with "mail.yourdomain.com". However, the security certificate presented belongs to "your.hosting.service.com". It is possible, though unlikely, that someone may be trying to intercept your communication with this web site.

If you suspect the certificate shown does not belong to "mail.yourdomain.com", please cancel the connection and notify the site administrator.

Here is what the annoying alert looks like:

Quote:

The reason this happens is because your domain is running off a shared server "mail.yourdomain.com" which points to the server which is running the SMTP server "your.hosting.service.com".

The easiest way to solve this is to change your SMTP server address from "mail.yourdomain.com" to the one that matches the certificate. If the login details are correct, it shouldn't matter.

The best method is to install the Remember Mismatched Domains extension into Thunderbird.

Mail Questions :: Setting up your email account, and configuring Outlook

One of the primary reasons a person gets his own website is to have personalized email such as yourname@yourdomain.com, and typically you will also want several accounts for members of your family or employees at your business:
(e.g. johnsmith@yourdomain.com).

In your cPanel the first icon is Mail. Click on it and it takes you to the Mail Manager Main Menu. Click on add/remove/manage accounts. Create an account like yourname@yourdomain.com.

You will see your newly created account along with your login username and password you created for logging in to your mail server.

Your server settings you will enter into your email client (such as Outlook or Thunderbird) will be something like this:

Server Type: POP Mail Server
Port : 110
Server Name: mail.yourdomain.com
User Name: yourname+yourdomain.com

Under Security Settings - Use Secure Connection check "Never".
Also make sure the Use Secure Authentication checkbox is unchecked.

When you login to your account enter the password you created.

To send mail you have to configure your outgoing server (SMTP), which in most cases is:
smtp.yourdomain.com
Port: 25

HOWEVER, some ISP's such as Netscape for instance only allow you to smtp via their servers. In that case you must contact your Internet Service Provider and ask them what settings to enter for your outgoing server (SMTP).

UPDATE: We are now running Exim, so a possible workaround is to try setting your SMTP port to 26.

We know this can be confusing to someone new at this stuff, so always remember we're here to help: email us anytime with your questions or submit a trouble ticket - we'll get you set up in no time!

We will be performing scheduled maintenance on Alpha Server on Sunday November 9th at 10:00pm CST. During this time we will be upgrading our Apache web server to version 2.2.10 (from 1.3.4x). We will also be upgrading the operating system from CentOS 4.7 to CentOS 5.2.

This upgrade will allow us to provide you with a higher level of performance and security. During the upgrade we will also be installing a new set of mod_security rules which will add to the overall protection our clients websites. We will also be upgrading our firewall software which help deflect distributed denial of service attacks and ensure that your sites are kept functioning at optimal levels.

The server will stay online during this time however while the Apache service is recompiled your websites will be unavailable for an estimated 30-45 minutes. During this time an unbranded "Under Maintenance" page will be displayed instead of your normal content.

Subject: Can receive email, but not send
Topic Replies: 0

Are you able to receive emails but not send?
Here is the solution:
If you can receive mail but aren't able to send this means one thing:

Your internet provider is blocking you from using anyone's outgoing mail servers but their own. Many major ISPs are blocking outgoing emails. The reason they do this is to prevent you from using their internet connection for spamming purposes. You will still be able to send emails, but only by using your ISP'S outgoing mail server. Every ISP's outgoing mail address is different, but for the most part they will be mail.yourispname.com For example, if you had hosting with AOL.com, their outgoing mail server would look like this: mail.aol.com
If mail.yourisp.com does not work and you are still unable to send emails, you will need to call your internet service provider to find out what their outgoing mail server is.

We also have Exim running on port 26 for this very reason. A possible work around is to change your outgoing mail to port 26.

Well, it could be, but I think most likely it is the php calls to the server - your forum is PHP driven, and every time someone loads a page the server-side script sends the page called.

Ok. The bandwidth is going crazy again. -.-
It's only March 3rd and I have used almost 1 GB. We've got 105,997 hits? Which doesn't seem possible.... Since the WHOLE month of Feb. was only 400,896. That's 1/4 of Februaries stats.
So I'm trying to reduce the Bandwidth.

I would say it is a problem with phpBB2, I would search their support forums for similar issues. Also, some email providers (mostly Hotmail) are causing a lot of problems like these with very strict spam filters, see this:

Dash here again. We have well over 500 members enlisted in our forum!

So I'm very glad that I payed for the upgrade and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Our main problem right now seems to be email verification, I did this to slow down the spam, since obviously everyone wants a bite out of my website . A lot of users are emailing me saying that they have not received an email with the verification link. Is this normal for websites with a large number of people signing up simultaneously? Or do you think it could be due to some other problem?

I believe you are using phpnuke as your (CMS) content management system,
so the relevant information for creating an RSS Feed would be found here:
http://brennan.offwhite.net/blog/2004/09/27/phpnuke-feeds-for-rss-20-and-atom-03/

or here:

http://www.karakas-online.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69

As for creating pages (HTML), I would direct you to:

http://www.bigeasywebhosting.com/mod.php?mod=faq&mode=show&faq_id=12

I hope this is what you were looking for, I found this information by doing a google search for "phpnuke rss feed" .

I had a few questions.. How can I download RSS feeder, xml, or atom. They all seem very useful to have on your website so people can subscribe to your news feed. I've tried searching on how to install the code and sign up for it, but I can't find anything.

How do you add separate pages? I know there is only 10 sub domains allowed. But is there anyway I can have more more pages? For instance...yoursite.com/page/1, yoursite.com/page/2. How do you do add that?

PS. I sent you an email about upgrading my membership.

I believe awstats are accurate. Here is more info, and some alternatives (NOTE: not all of the listed alternatives are available to Big Easy Web hosting customers - look under statistics in your cPanel for what is available)
