Short description: One of the most popular community-based portals with a big choice of modules and languages.
Homepage: http://www.phpnuke.org/
1. Log in to your control panel (http://yourdomainname.info/cpanel)
2. Click on the Fantastico icon: Under Content Management in the left-hand column, click PHP-Nuke.
3. Click New Installation.
4. Install on domain: Your domain should be already pre-selected. Since we want to install in the root directory of our domain for this tutorial, we'll leave the next field empty (Install in directory).
Now you have some more information to enter:
Administrator-username (you need this to enter the protected admin area): fill in your desired username.
Password (you need this to enter the protected admin area): create a password and enter it.
The next few are pretty obvious:
Site name
Your site's slogan
Start date of the site
Admin e-mail (your email address)
How many stories to display in main page: 10 is the default
How many stories to display in Old Articles box: 10 is the default
Activate Ultramode plain text file backend syndication:
This is a way for webmasters of other sites to syndicate your news.
The default is Yes.
Title for Ultramode backend: You can put something like: your site name Ultramode
Send new stories to admin: Yes
Preferred Language: English
Keep the last 3 fields as their defaults unless you want to run a different language, which is beyond the scope of this tutorial.
Click Install PHP-Nuke.
5. Now you will see this error message:
The installation can not be completed:
- You chose to install in the main directory of the domain yourwebsite.info, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain yourwebsite.info (path="/home/username/public_html/").You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
images
This is what the error message is all about: There is an empty directory called "images" in the
/home/username/public_html that MUST be deleted. Either FTP into the directory and delete it, or send support an email at http://bigeasywebhosting.com/mod.php?mod=mail&mode=contact
and request us to remove it for you. We'll be happy to do so .
After it is removed, hit the back button on your browser, Click Install PHP-Nuke again, then on the next page click Finish Installation.
6. It's a good idea to email the details of the installation to yourself
7. One last thing MUST be done: If there is a file called "index.html" in the /home/username/public_html that MUST be deleted. Either FTP into the directory and delete it, or send support an email at http://bigeasywebhosting.com/mod.php?mod=mail&mode=contact
and request us to remove it for you. We'll be happy to do so .
8. Of course, change "yourdomainname.info" in the above examples to what yourdomainname really is, and if you don't have a .info enter what THAT really is (e.g. .net, .org, .com etc.)
Congratulations, PHP-Nuke is installed! _________________ David Ryder
